ASPE EXPO Atlanta 2018

By | AGS, American Gas Safety, Industry News, Laboratory Control

2018 promised and excelled to be the best year yet over at the ASPE EXPO in Atlanta. We were literally rushed off our feet from start to finish and would like to thank everyone who attended our booth.

We had a number of engineers very impressed with the simple installation and the versatility of our product range. Our Merlin range can be used for all types of applications not just Labs, such as Mechanical Rooms, Fire Pits, Commercial Kitchens, Gas BBQ’s,  Fire Houses etc.

We also had the chance to promote our new and improved Gas Detectors with a complete revamp design that is not only modern but also provides a quick installation & a TFT screen user interface (pictured above). The new TFT gas detectors can be used in various different applications such as boiler rooms, science labs, commercial kitchens & many more! A main improvement on our new detectors is that they give the user the ability to physically view the ppm levels of the gas being detected without having to rely on handheld equipment.

If you are designing any Commercial Projects when a GAS pipe is entering the premises, we have the Safety systems to ensure the building and occupants are safe from any leaks. Please browse though our complete product range and if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to make contact. info@americangassafety.com or (727)-608-4375.

Buena Park High School Protected by AGS Utility Controller

By | AGS, American Gas Safety, Industry News, Laboratory Control

Buena Park High School in Fullerton, CA have recently benefited from a $68 million bond allotted fund to upgrade their aging facilities and build the needed classrooms to accommodate their growing student population. Upgrades to the Buena Park High School included: new classrooms, library, underground utilities, ADA accessibility, and new landscaping and paving. Our Merlin utility controllers have been installed to not only provide educator authority, but protect the students and the building out of hours using built-in time out functions. With the master key in the ‘Off’ position, there is limited damage or harm which can be caused when all the utilities are isolated.

The system installed is our Merlin 1000Si, which controls the Gas utility within the science laboratories. This system has built in connectivity allowing the panel to communicate with the schools BMS and has connections for the buildings existing fire alarm system. The panel can either tell the BMS that the gas is “ON” or “OFF” with the flick of a switch on the internal control panel. The 1000Si can also tell the BMS that the panel has gone into “Alarm”, high concentrations of CO2, gas leak detected or that an EM stop has been actuated. Examples of the installation can be seen below, thanks to Joel Baldovino of TK1SC and all at Verne’s plumbing for their assistance with this project:

As above, our Merlin 1000Si Utility Controller has been supplied with our Carbon Monoxide & Natural Gas Detectors. In the event of alarm levels of either gas being sensed, the detector in alarm will send a visual & audible alarm back to the 1000Si showing ‘High’ on the detector & ‘gas detected’ on the 1000Si. This will then close the connected gas solenoid valve stopping the gas being used in the lab and protecting not only the students in the room but also the building from any potential gas leaks.

Wynn Casino Boston now protected by American Gas Safety

By | AGS, American Gas Safety, Industry News, Laboratory Control

AGS are now the approved supplier for the gas safety systems to be installed at the Wynn casino in Boston. The Casino is a 2.4 billion dollar project and our control panels are protecting over 15 of the restaurant kitchen areas from exposure to harmful gases such as carbon monoxide, which according to statistics is the cause of 400 deaths per year on average.

The system to be installed is the Merlin 1500S fan interlocking system, which ensures the Exhaust Fan is in operation before allowing gas to be released to the cooking appliances by means of a gas solenoid valve. Our system continuously monitors the exhaust fan with either an Air Flow Switch or a Current Monitoring device to determine there is voltage going up to the fan. By using one of our gas interlock systems, this will prevent the chef or staff member from cooking until the fan is operational, resulting in a safer working environment. For extra safety, the Merlin system also has connections for Carbon Monoxide Detection, Methane Detection, LPG Detection, Carbon Dioxide Sensing and Remote Emergency Gas Shut off. The Merlin system also has added features for links to fire alarms and ansul systems.

If you require fan interlocking & carbon monoxide protection in your premises or would like any further information on our solutions, please do not hesitate to contact AGS, the leading manufacturer of gas safety safety.

Off-Duty Firefighter Saves 30 Diners After Noticing Carbon Monoxide Leak in North Carolina Restaurant

By | AGS, American Gas Safety, Fire & Environment Safety

On December 14th Lonnie Wimmer, one off-duty North Carolina firefighter, ensured dozens of people happy and healthy holidays when he noticed signs of a potentially deadly carbon monoxide leak while dining at a restaurant over the weekend. Lonnie was attending a birthday party at the River Ridge Taphouse in Clemmons on Saturday when he and other patrons began to experience headaches and nausea, LFD Assistant Chief Steve Williams tells PEOPLE. After immediately calling the LFD and alerting them to what he deciphered was a carbon monoxide leak multiple ambulances responded, and all restaurant patrons were evacuated, Williams said. Around 30 people showed signs of carbon monoxide poisoning, with at least 16 transported to local hospitals.

At AGS we want to provide a solution to help restaurant owners protect members of the public as well as their workers. When solid fuel is burned, products of combustion, including carbon monoxide gas, are released. Carbon monoxide is a highly poisonous gas with no taste, smell or color. Moderate exposure can lead to serious permanent ill-health effects or death. Children, pregnant women, smokers and people with heart or breathing problems are particularly at risk. The early signs of carbon monoxide poisoning are similar to common ailments such as flu or upset stomach, but can escalate very quickly. Symptoms can include: Headache; Abdominal pain; Nausea/vomiting; Chest pains; Breathlessness; Dizziness; Collapse.
