Buena Park High School in Fullerton, CA have recently benefited from a $68 million bond allotted fund to upgrade their aging facilities and build the needed classrooms to accommodate their growing student population. Upgrades to the Buena Park High School included: new classrooms, library, underground utilities, ADA accessibility, and new landscaping and paving. Our Merlin utility controllers have been installed to not only provide educator authority, but protect the students and the building out of hours using built-in time out functions. With the master key in the ‘Off’ position, there is limited damage or harm which can be caused when all the utilities are isolated.
The system installed is our Merlin 1000Si, which controls the Gas utility within the science laboratories. This system has built in connectivity allowing the panel to communicate with the schools BMS and has connections for the buildings existing fire alarm system. The panel can either tell the BMS that the gas is “ON” or “OFF” with the flick of a switch on the internal control panel. The 1000Si can also tell the BMS that the panel has gone into “Alarm”, high concentrations of CO2, gas leak detected or that an EM stop has been actuated. Examples of the installation can be seen below, thanks to Joel Baldovino of TK1SC and all at Verne’s plumbing for their assistance with this project:
As above, our Merlin 1000Si Utility Controller has been supplied with our Carbon Monoxide & Natural Gas Detectors. In the event of alarm levels of either gas being sensed, the detector in alarm will send a visual & audible alarm back to the 1000Si showing ‘High’ on the detector & ‘gas detected’ on the 1000Si. This will then close the connected gas solenoid valve stopping the gas being used in the lab and protecting not only the students in the room but also the building from any potential gas leaks.
