ASPE EXPO Atlanta 2018

By | AGS, American Gas Safety, Industry News, Laboratory Control

2018 promised and excelled to be the best year yet over at the ASPE EXPO in Atlanta. We were literally rushed off our feet from start to finish and would like to thank everyone who attended our booth.

We had a number of engineers very impressed with the simple installation and the versatility of our product range. Our Merlin range can be used for all types of applications not just Labs, such as Mechanical Rooms, Fire Pits, Commercial Kitchens, Gas BBQ’s,  Fire Houses etc.

We also had the chance to promote our new and improved Gas Detectors with a complete revamp design that is not only modern but also provides a quick installation & a TFT screen user interface (pictured above). The new TFT gas detectors can be used in various different applications such as boiler rooms, science labs, commercial kitchens & many more! A main improvement on our new detectors is that they give the user the ability to physically view the ppm levels of the gas being detected without having to rely on handheld equipment.

Buena Park High School Protected by AGS Utility Controller

By | AGS, American Gas Safety, Industry News, Laboratory Control

Buena Park High School in Fullerton, CA have recently benefited from a $68 million bond allotted fund to upgrade their aging facilities and build the needed classrooms to accommodate their growing student population. Upgrades to the Buena Park High School included: new classrooms, library, underground utilities, ADA accessibility, and new landscaping and paving. Our Merlin utility controllers have been installed to not only provide educator authority, but protect the students and the building out of hours using built-in time out functions. With the master key in the ‘Off’ position, there is limited damage or harm which can be caused when all the utilities are isolated.

The system installed is our Merlin 1000Si, which controls the Gas utility within the science laboratories. This system has built in connectivity allowing the panel to communicate with the schools BMS and has connections for the buildings existing fire alarm system. The panel can either tell the BMS that the gas is “ON” or “OFF” with the flick of a switch on the internal control panel. The 1000Si can also tell the BMS that the panel has gone into “Alarm”, high concentrations of CO2, gas leak detected or that an EM stop has been actuated. Examples of the installation can be seen below, thanks to Joel Baldovino of TK1SC and all at Verne’s plumbing for their assistance with this project:

As above, our Merlin 1000Si Utility Controller has been supplied with our Carbon Monoxide & Natural Gas Detectors. In the event of alarm levels of either gas being sensed, the detector in alarm will send a visual & audible alarm back to the 1000Si showing ‘High’ on the detector & ‘gas detected’ on the 1000Si. This will then close the connected gas solenoid valve stopping the gas being used in the lab and protecting not only the students in the room but also the building from any potential gas leaks.

For further information on our Merlin range of utility controllers or if you are currently looking at any commercial projects, please see our website www.americangassafety.com or alternatively contact us on info@americangassafety.com.

Family Business taking American Gas Safety from strength to strength!

By | AGS, American Gas Safety, Industry News, Laboratory Control

For a family business, more than any other, values are the connective tissue the source of your success, your commitment, and your longevity. They bring power to a business, helping to assure you resolve any conflicts and strengthen operations through the natural act of passing down a legacy. When AGS first started, myself and parents wanted to ensure that our family values spread throughout our representatives.

When identifying the perfect fit for us we had no idea just how many family business we would bring on board. 90% of our reps are family businesses and we consider them the driving force of our future.

The success of the business will ensure the future of the next generation. Below is a pic of our CEO Steve, Vice President Sue and my 3 month old daughter Brontë.

Wynn Casino Boston now protected by American Gas Safety

By | AGS, American Gas Safety, Industry News, Laboratory Control

AGS gas safety systems are installed at the Wynn casino in Boston. The Casino is a 2.4 billion dollar project and our control panels are protecting over 15 of the restaurant kitchen areas from exposure to harmful gases such as carbon monoxide, which according to statistics is the cause of 400 deaths per year on average.

The system installed is the Merlin 1500S system, which ensures the kitchens are up to local code by providing the CO (carbon monoxide) interlock for the gas supply. If the fans are not running or not running efficiently enough to expel harmful gases from the kitchen area; the AGS 1500S system shall alarm, shut off the gas supply and inform the BMS or Fire Alarm panel of a High CO alarm condition. This requirement not only protects the health of workers in the kitchen and the well being of guest at the resort, it also proves that the fan interlock exists in the Kitchen and that interlock is working correctly and that the fans are supplying and extracting the correct amount of air.

The Merlin 1500S system also has the ability to continuously monitor the kitchen fans with either an Air Flow Switch device or a Current Monitoring device to determine that the fans are running. AGS gas interlock systems ensure that only authorized personal can have access to the gas supply, ensure that the fans are operating correctly and with the addition of remote detectors we can provide protection from gas leaks and high concentrations of CO or CO2.  The Merlin system also has added features for connectivity to the fire alarm system, BMS and fire suppression systems.

All of this functionality comes as standard and is highly adaptable to different design requirements, provide in a UL certified package that is available off the shelf.

We would like to thank our partners on this project, most notably E. M. Duggan Inc for their continued support and our local representatives Emerson Swan, Inc.

I’m Ready For My Close-Up

By | AGS, American Gas Safety, Laboratory Control

Today saw the filming of our new demonstration video get underway. The team took stills and video of a new installation near our headquarters and the final cut should be available at the beginning of May.

This is another example of how AGS listens to it’s partners and how we take feedback on board. It was decided that a promotional video for the Utility Control range would be of benefit to our representatives both as a demonstration tool and also as a training tool. Getting our message of gas safety in classrooms to more customers across the nation, faster than ever.

Merlin 1000SW+

Merlin 1000SW+

Once the final video is available it will be posted on our YouTube page and Twitter account for all to see. The video will give a brief history of the company and the range, the unique safety features and an in depth explanation of the pressure test function. Hopefully answering many common questions and providing another layer of confidence in the specifying engineer.
